What exactly is pigmentation on the skin?

Pigmentation refers to your skin’s coloring. The pigment responsible for the color of your skin is called melanin. Your skin cells produce melanin to protect your skin from UV rays.

The melanin levels produced by the body vary from each individual. However, for some people, there is an excess production or distribution of melanin in certain areas, which causes their skin to darken. This skin condition is also called hyperpigmentation.

There are many types of hyperpigmentation, and most of these cannot be treated with simple home remedies. Fortunately, our doctors at Theme Dermatology specialize in skincare concerns such as hyperpigmentation to help patients like you who need pigmentation laser treatments. By undergoing laser treatments, you get rid of any irregular skin pigmentation concerns.

Pigmentation Laser Treatments: RevLite Laser, Pico Laser, and Max-G Laser

RevLite Laser

RevLite laser is one of the safest and most effective pigmentation laser treatments we have that can treat freckles and pigmentation without causing any side effects. This pigmentation laser treatment uses the revolutionary DMP (Diverse Micro Pulse) System. RevLite laser is an excellent laser treatment because of its powerful non-ablative, non-invasive feature – which means it does not cause any physical damage on your skin’s surface and targets a specific skin tissue underneath the upper layers of the skin.

RevLite laser works by using high-speed energy waves penetrating through the upper layer of the skin and then eventually destroying the unnecessary pigments and inks found in the dermis layer. These broken particles (pigments and inks) are drained through the lymphatic system, resulting in improved skin pigmentation, skin texture, skin tone, etc.

Pico Laser

Pico Laser uses the picosecond laser toning method to treat uneven skin pigmentation and acne scars. Like RevLite Laser, this pigmentation laser treatment works by heating the specific targeted skin tissue without damaging it to stimulate the body to produce more elastin and collagen – these are proteins necessary to keep the skin strong, healthy, and firm. Excess and irrelevant pigments and particles are drained by the immune system to treat skin discoloration.

Max-G Laser

Max-G Laser is one of the best three pigmentation lasers in Theme Dermatology. This pigmentation laser treatment works by absorbing the energy and breaking it up to clear away redness and hyperpigmentation. Not only does Max-G laser help your skin from hyperpigmentation, redness, and sunspots, but it also brightens and even outs the skin tone.

Comparison of Pigmentation Laser Treatments

RevLite, Pico, and Max-G laser help increase collagen and elastin production to achieve better, rejuvenated skin. RevLite laser is one of the safest ways to improve pigmentation or acne scarring without side effects. On the other hand, both Pico laser and Max-G laser treatments may trigger some side effects on you (such as redness and swelling) for a couple of days.

RevLite laser and Pico laser are similar in terms of the time duration and number of sessions it takes to produce results.

Who is suitable for pigmentation laser treatments?

Pigmentation laser treatments are suitable for people with:

  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Freckles
  • Acne scarring/red blemishes
  • Sunspots
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Enlarged pores
  • Rough skin

How frequently should you have the treatment (per laser treatment)?

For RevLite laser treatment:

We recommend receiving this treatment for 5 to 10 sessions at 2 to 4 weeks intervals between treatments. You might experience a warm or mild tingling sensation during the procedure. This treatment does not require aftercare, but we highly recommend avoiding long sun exposure.

For Pico laser treatment:

Pico laser (toning mode) can be done once a month, but we recommend receiving this treatment more than 5 times to achieve the best result! You will not experience any downtime after the procedure. However, slight redness and scabbing might occur in the treated areas.

For Max-G laser treatment:

You can get Max-G laser treatment once. If you feel you want to get your second Max-G laser, it is possible! We recommend receiving another session at least 2 months after your first Max-G laser treatment. You will experience a slight downtime after 1-2 days. You might also experience slight redness, but you can easily apply make-up about 1 hour after the procedure.

Summary

In summary, treating skin conditions (such as hyperpigmentation, freckles, acne scarring/red blemishes, sun spots, uneven skin tone, enlarged pores, and rough skin) that simple home remedies cannot manage is possible with our pigmentation laser treatments: RevLite Laser, Pico Laser, and Max-G Laser.

Our pigmentation laser treatments work by triggering the body to stimulate collagen and elastin production. Moreover, these laser treatments help the body in flushing out unnecessary and excess pigments and particles. These processes help you achieve a clear and younger-looking complexion.

RevLite laser can be done for about 5~10 sessions at 2~4 weeks between treatments. Pico laser (toning mode) can be done once a month, but we highly recommend receiving this treatment more than 5 times to achieve the best result. For Max-G laser, this can be done once. But it can be possibly done a second time at least 2 months after your initial Max-G laser treatment.
